We are the ONLY professional association dedicated to the discipline of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) and through their membership, our members demonstrate to the public not only their high level of commitment and professionalism to their clients and their own clinical practice, but also declare their commitment to their own ongoing development as practitioners – the hallmark of best practice.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a unique and effective therapeutic discipline in its own right and we are here to represent, support and educate everyone who is interested in this powerful approach that has helped countless numbers of people around the globe.

Levels of membership

Whatever stage you’re at in your Solution Focused Hypnotherapist career, we’re pleased to offer a variety of AfSFH membership levels to meet your needs:
  • AfSFH Associate membership (£20 for 12 months) – This is open to those who are qualified in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (or have equivalent qualifications from approved training providers, which meet our eligibility criteria) who are currently not practising or are taking a break from practice, but who still want to keep in touch with the world of SFH!
  • AfSFH Student membership (£20 for 12 months) – This is available to those currently enrolled on a solution focused hypnotherapy training course at an accredited school. Accredited Schools are defined as schools that are Associate Members of UKCHO.  
  • AfSFH Registered membership (£65 for 12 months) – This full level of membership is available to practitioners who have qualified as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist (SFH) or have gained separate qualifications in Hypnotherapy as well as solution-focused therapy from an UKCHO accredited training school or other approved training provider (see our training criteria below). Evidence of completed training must be supplied as part of the application process.

Eligibility criteria to join the AfSFH

To be eligible to join the AfSFH as a Registered member, applicants* must either:
  1. Be trained specifically in SFH - have trained and qualified in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy; or
  2. Have prior learning – have trained and qualified in Hypnotherapy and also in Solution-focused methods.
*Please note, any individual who has previously been expelled from the AfSFH is not eligible to re-join.

Hypnotherapy Training criteria

To join the AfSFH as a Registered member, applicants must be suitably qualified in Hypnotherapy. This must be from an accredited school of training as defined as an Associate Member of UCKHO, or you must meet the AfSFH’s criteria for prior learning.
  • Accredited schools of training are defined as those who are Associate Members of the UKCHO.
  • The AfSFH’s criteria for prior learning are as follows:
    – You must have attended a Hypnotherapy course consisting of a minimum of 120 hours face-to-face teaching. This requires successful completion of a diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH/DHP), or other hypnotherapy diploma in addition to SF training (see below).
  • For advanced study, an additional 450 hours study needs to be completed (e.g. by successful completion of HPD).
  • All courses must adhere to the National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy.

Solution Focused Training criteria

All AfSFH Registered members are required to have undertaken accredited Solution Focused training, either as an integral part of their Hypnotherapy training as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist (SFH) or as a separate course of study in addition to holding a Hypnotherapy qualification as outlined above.

Accredited Solution Focused Training is defined as meeting all the following criteria:
  • Training from one of the following:
    - An accredited school (see above)
    - A nationally recognised training centre in solution-focused methods (e.g. BRIEF)
  • Training consisting of a minimum of 100 hours of study relating to Solution Focused techniques and principles, to include guided learning and preparation of assessment material.
  • Training that includes a formal assessment and completion of at least 5 case histories demonstrating an understanding of Solution Focused techniques and principles.
